Climax Packaging Division

Artware Requirements

You can provide us with finished art for printing your boxes. We will supply you with a "digital template" so that you have the exact dimensions in which to position the artwork. Any artwork that we are required to furnish may be at an additional cost and not included in our quotes.

A proof will be submitted for customer approval on all new orders and repeat orders with copy changes.

Charges for printing plates will be estimated along with the job quotation. After receipt of the order, exact cost for printing plates will be figured and confirmed when the proof is submitted.  Changes to the artwork, may require the printing plate estimates to be revised.

Related Terms

  • Blue Line: This is the photoprint made from stripped-up negatives or positives used as a proof to check position of image elements.
  • Chokes, Traps, Spreads: In stripping, making slight enlargements or reductions in the size of elements of an image for the purpose of creating trap.
  • Chromalin: Off press color proofs using DuPont Chromalin material.
  • Color Correction: Any method such as masking, dot-etching, re-etching and scanning, used to improve color rendition.
  • Color Key: An overlay proof made of layers of acetate or polyester attached in register to a backing substrate. Each overlay film carries the colored image from a film negative. Color breaks and traps can be judged but exact color match to the final printed product cannot be made.
  • Color Separation: The process of exposing an original color image through RGB filters to produce complementary images which will be printed with CMYK inks. The final digital file includes masking (color modification) for specific inks and substrates as well as halftone screening to enable printing of a uniform tone scale with proper gray balance from extreme highlights through mid tones and shadows to maximum solid color. This can be accomplished through the use of a digital camera, digital or analog scanner or photographically.
  • Conventional Chromalin:
    • High End Proof
    • Shows Trap
    • Dot for Dot
    • Line Screen
    • Can mix PMS
    • Shows almost a direct color match
    • Cannot do layers
    • Done in same color sequence as on press
    • Can mount to substrate
    • Has film cost - $.12 per square inch
  • Copy: Any furnished material (typewritten manuscript, pictures, artwork) to be used in the production of printing.
  • Crop: To eliminate portion of the copy, usually on a photograph or plate, indicated on the original by crop marks.
  • Die Line: Used by the artist/film preparer as the graphic template for the job from graphic design through die cutting.
  • Die Vinyl: A dimensionally stable clear or translucent polyester film. It is plotted from a CAD file using the same file that will be used on the die board for the die cutting.
  • Digital Chromalin:
    • Better resolution than conventional chromalin
    • No film
    • Pretty clear
    • Shows trap
    • No dots
    • Can print on clear substrate
    • Has to be composite
    • Not bad for being "closest" to PMS colors desired
    • 22x28" cut off size
  • Digital Color Proof: An off-press color proof produced from digital data without the need for separation films.
  • Distortion: The amount of art is reduced to compensate for cylinder wrap - not the stretching of the plate material due to the instability of the plate.

  • Distortion Factor: A multiplier which compensates for normal flexo image shrinkage with rubber plates and image stretch when any type of flexo plates are made flat and mounted around a cylinder for printing.
  • HP Mockups - (Proofs & Samples):
    • Plotter is 36" x 100"
    • Uses an Inkjet Printer
    • Low Resolution
    • Shows position / copy
    • Not to be used for color proofing
    • No Trap
    • No Dot
    • Great for Mockups
    • Can use different paper: coated/uncoated/clear
  • Heaford Proof:
    • 1 color press
    • True Image
    • Replicates what we can do on press
    • Prints with our inks, substrate and materials
    • Can take up to 1 week to process
    • Takes less time in the end
    • 22" wide web
    • 24" Repeat
